Regal Fabrics Inc. is founded by Herb and Arlene Kahan in a 5,000 square foot unit in a new Danvers, MA industrial park. Though Arlene sadly passed in 2017 after 30 years in the business and 60+ years of marriage, Herb continues to serve as CEO today.
Using mill contacts he’d made in a 30+ year career in the industry, Herb begins to import and sell Italian tapestries, with a focus on fast delivery of the latest European styles to the American market.
Herb + Arlene’s son Steve Kahan joins Regal. Steve continues to serve as company President.
After hiring several experienced textile designers, Regal becomes a true “convertor” working with partner mills to create trademarked original patterns. Today, the design department employs a number of talented people collaboratively creating ~300 new fabric SKU’s per collection.
Daughter Ronda Kahan-Wilson joins Regal. Ronda continues to serve as company Vice President.
Regal is known as “The Tapestry Source,” supplying decorative and novelty tapestry fabrics to the furniture and fashion industries.
Regal Purchases 35000 ft2 building in Middleton, MA, establishing its first standalone headquarters.

Regal acquires Krelan Fabrics and incorporates more high-end designs into product mix.
In order to provide a wider range of fabric constructions and designs, Regal begins sourcing fabrics in China in addition to Europe.
Regal’s best-sellers are increasingly textured plains used as upholstery body cloths, leading to a release of the Modern Textures group of popular plains. This collection-based marketing has continued with the Price Point Plains group, Performance by Regal, and further congruence in Regal’s semi-annual product releases.

Construction begins on new 94,000 ft2 headquarters to feature state of the art office, swatch-production, and design development spaces, updated machinery and ample warehouse space for continued expansion. Herb & Arlene’s oldest grandchildren, Scott and Andy join the Regal Fabrics team.
